Stamping with Solder

Spruill Center for the Arts
Wednesday Evening:  March 4 - April 1, 2015
6:30 PM to 9:30 PM

Lead free 'silver solder' has many uses in jewelry fabrication. When heated to a molten state, it can be stamped with both metal and rubber stamps leaving behind an intricate design. In this class, students will learn how to add beautifully stamped texture to copper using silver bearing solder. Various tips and tricks for achieving a good impression will be explored and discussed. Stamped creations will then be riveted onto sheet metal to create a vast collection of elements for use in one of a kind jewelry designs.

During the cold winter months, I love layering both my clothes and my jewelry!  This January, I started making tassel necklaces using vintage thimbles as my bead cap.  I layer the thimble over strands of repurposed leather and top it off with a faceted crystal.  It's my current go to necklace at the moment which I wear with a long chunky crystal accent necklace.  Layered together, it's the perfect combination.
